Still battling the flu and still unable to write anything of interest. So today I give you a healthy dose of irreverence because I need a laugh and so do you!

The Officail Jesus Webpage

Facts about Jesus:

1. Jesus is a mammal.

2.Jesus saves ALL the time

3.The purpose of Jesus is to flip out and smite the wicked

There’s more on this site and it’s ridiculous and oh so sweet.

Christian Cheese

This any many more amazingly weird pics of Jesus.

DollarCross

A Christian themed Dollar store. God rocks, like pop rocks - what better way to celebrate Jesus’ gory death than with colorful, cross-shaped novelty candy?

It is amazing [and sad] how odd the Christian culture has evolved.

If we can’t laugh at ourselves… then what else do we have to laugh at?

Any other site out there to add to the crazy list?

I recently read a blog from Chris Summerfield about how he sees his spiritual walk less like the Matrix (one often used because of the duality of the universe - spiritual vs. physical) and more like Fight Club:

”There is no overarching vampire or matrix that we need to discover and fight, rather the evil is being perpetrated by us and the systems that we comply with. In Fight Club Tyler Durden is the Christ like figure who walks into Jacks life. Tyler forces Jack to face the current reality of his world, the injustice, the love of money, the obsession of the trivial and to liberate him, an “heir of oppression” (my term) from that.”

So it got me thinking. What movie does your spiritual walk of faith look most like?

Mine? Lord of the Rings. Often times it feels like there’s only a small fellowship that keeps the light going. We do our best beyond insurmountable odds, in the hope that our King will return.

So what about you?

I feel about like Britney Spears (above) right now. Hanging out for a weekend retreat. I feel like I need to shave my head and enter rehab (and get some tatoos).

19 student + 9 hours of sleep (over 3+ days) = brain dead.

Had a great long weekend retreat with a bunch of high school kids. Amazing things happened, I’m just having a hard time typing at the moment. So when my wits come back to me, I’ll fill all of you in. I haven’t felt this perky since the kids were newborns and didn’t sleep though the night. Thanks for your prayers - we needed them!

 Until then….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

PS: Oh and they’re selling Brit’s hair for $1 million dollars!?! Okay, if you’ve got the money and feel like burning it, please reconsider and support a missionary (ME!) and I’ll shave my head and send you the hair!

Okay here’s the assignment. Read the quote, watch the video. Give your impressions. I really want to see a dialogue started here. Agree or disagree, let’s talk.

Quote of the week:

”Times change. God doesn’t, but times do. We learn and grow, and the world around us shifts, and the Christian faith is alive only when it is listening, morphing, innovating, letting go of whatever has gotten in the way of Jesus and embracing whatever will help us be more and more the people God wants us to be.”

Rob Bell - Velvet Elvis

Video of the week:

Solomon’s Porch. Check this video out, it’s really interesting. Solomon’s Porch one of the more well known emerging churches.” Interesting ideas here, both good and bad. {saw this video thanks to Virgil}

My input: I agree with Bell on many levels, but there’s a danger/fear in changing. What will happen? What will things look like? Will I still feel comfortable with the new changes? And after watching the video, I embrace some of this sense of freedom, but feel real uncomfortable with the “whatever goes” feeling as well. I’m quite torn.

We are creatures of habit. We hate change. Some change we should hate, others are good for us.

(actual picture of student tubing who crashed)

We’ll be taking around 20 or so students on a snow retreat this weekend! It will be an exciting time, for fun and going deeper with many students.

Pray for us for:

  • safety
  • open hearts
  • fun
  • for God to show up

I (and the other leaders) have really been praying about theses specific students and I’m entering this trip with real expectation of God revealing himself to many on this trip. So keep us in your prayers this weekend!
