A rule against physical contact at a Fairfax County [Virginia] middle school is so strict that students can be sent to the principal’s office for hugging, holding hands or even high-fiving.

Unlike some schools in the Washington area, which ban fighting or inappropriate touching, Kilmer Middle School in Vienna bans all touching — and that has some parents lobbying for a change… [MSN]

More here.

Oh, this has gone way too far. It’s ridiculous. Especially when I work with a bunch of guys who frequently break out into sack tapping contests.

sacktap =  a slight and subtle flick of the wrist to  a man’s testicles, causing a delayed, but tremendous pain in the stomach and lower regions. This pain will cause him to fall to the ground in pain and occasionally cry.

Based on the standards in Kilmer Middle School our boys would probably be expelled or put to death by lethal injection.

We’ve tried so hard to shelter kids from life and become so politically correct we don’t know which end is up anymore. There’s a line you cross when you’re so controlling it ceases to become a school and begins to be a prison. Then parents complain their teenage kids are always so ornery and moody. Well, do you blame them?

Any comments?

  1. Someday I will have to thank “seeingclearly” for criticizing you. Without him I would have never found your BLOG. I am so tracking with you on this.

  2. Yeah, that’s too far. Though the whole sacktapping thing is so . . . so . . . well, such a guy-thing. I think I could have been perfectly content never knowing about that little game. (And to think you were so sarcastic about the whole Russian Lenin game. :) )

  3. Ha ha! What? Me sarcastic? No.

Hey, I don’t make up the games. I just try to avoid being caught up in them.

And yes I am the champion, I’ve gotten a homeschooling mom to use the world sacktapping in a sentence! Go me!

  4. ha ha ha ha ha But I have 4 boys, so it’s pretty inevitable that I’ll learn these guy things some day.

  5. Just don’t let them tea bag, that’s way too far. If you don’t know what it means ask Stuart!

  6. Oh, now I see. We’re playing Shock-The-Homeschool-Mom. :P nice, very nice

  7. Ha ha Joe. No explaination needed.

Derbe you’re a good sport to put up with us. Having 4 boys just means it’s going to get fun (but I’m sure it already is).

  8. :) It is fun. Lots of bodily function humor already.

  9. OH I know. They made the mistake of putting me in charge of the VBS puppet show this year. Two words: farting monkey. That’s all I can say. It’s comedy gold for the VBSers. I’ll give you an update if they throw me out of the church and revoke my pastor’s status.

  10. I’ve never thought “bodily function humor” was funny.

    Not in the least.

Of course, I was raised as a Southern “gentleman” and something were absolutely “out of bounds” for “gentlemen.”

And I still believe those things are “out of bounds” for males who want to be gentlemen….regardless what the “culture” thinks.

Good manners, and good decorum go a long way.

  11. You’re right Phil about good manners going a long way.

Most of the kids I come in contact with have corrupt hearts and the idea of being a gentleman or having manners is foreign. I work on the heart and hopefully manners down the line. But for now, I take them for where they are at.

And for me and body function humor? It kills with the little kids (especially VBSers). They’re hard wired to find it funny. I don’t help things either. I was raised Southern, minus the gentle plus the man.
