My oh my! Um. Yeah. Uh….

There’s not much to say for this one. I know I’ve had my share of foot in the mouth situations, but this takes the cake.

But I’ll share a doozie of my own. I was preaching about the virtues of Mary, the mother of Jesus. I was going from the scripture when the angel appears to Mary and she was afraid. So I proceed to go off into a rant on angels. I was ripping our culture’s view of either fat little babies with wings or long haired women as angels. In the Bible, they are creatures to be feared. Men fall down shaking in their presence, etc.

So I’m ranting on angles and how ridiculously we like to portray them. Then, I began to rip on the tv show,Touched by an Angel. And I happened to say, “and why would God use a stupid woman.”

Now, I fully well meant that the view of a soft cushy feminine angel depicted in the show is so far from who angels are scripturally. And the “stupid woman” remark was aimed at Roma Downey and her awful, cheesy portrayal of an angel. That’s what I meant, but boy, it didn’t come out wrong.

Any great foot in the mouth stories from you?

Brian posed an amazing question to me:

“Hey Stuart. I’ve read about all the political bloggers who get together for “conventions” and gatherings. Ever heard of youth ministry bloggers doing the same?”

Let’s do this baby. I’m game to put something like this on. Heck, I’d even host it (if anyone wants to visit the scenic Pacific Northwest).

Anyone else want in?

Yes, I noticed this the other day, quite by accident, that a short film I was a producer on (associate producer to be exact) has made its way to the ‘07 Cannes Film Festival in France. I’m just really amused at this because it was a film I worked on almost 9 years ago. It wasn’t very good then and from what I can see online, it hasn’t improved with age. That was another career and another life of mine. It’s just funny that things from so long ago still live on, when they probably shouldn’t.

It’s a life I rarely think about anymore. It’s amazing what happens when we give our vision up to the Lord and he returns it with His own vision and purpose for your life. I’ve always loved movies and was certain that what I was created to do. I worked in the industry and found myself completely and utterly bored with it. My adventure in life didn’t start till I handed my life and dreams completely and wholly over to the Lord. It’s been an amazing journey.

Here are some things I learned about the film industry:

1) People can make a career out of BSing.

2) It’s mainly about love of yourself (ego) and making sure others do so too.

3) Truth is relative and ultimately based on opinion.

4) It’s rarely about making film and more about making people feel important.
5) There is no such thing as originality, but you hear it talked about often.

Oh my. We certainly left the baby honeymoon period. The last few nights Tristen hasn’t wanted to sleep. We watch the clock go by in the dark.

So I’ve been a zombie all day. The kind of tired where doing simple tasks takes too much thought. Yep, that was today.

Anybody have any other baby stories? Or just sleep deprivation stories.

You know who’s cool? Matthew Sleeth. That’s who.

He’s the director of the US branch of A Rocha a Christian nature conservation organization. He’s the author of Serve God Save the Planet a book about our duty as a Christian to care for the environment by the way we live. He’s spoken at churches like Mars Hill and lectures all over the country. He was a emergency room physician who began to see how our lifestyle and treatment of the environment was taking a toll on our bodies. He was a man to whom God opened his eyes and called out onto a journey.

So is that why Matthew Sleeth is cool?

Nope, he’s cool because he’s all these things and he still took the time to email me. I quoted him a few weeks back and because of that, he shot me an email thanking me for what I had said. And to boot, he’s sending me a copy of his book, Serve God Save the Planet. When I get it, I’ll read it and review it here. So thank you, Matthew Sleeth, for working to save the world, but still taking time to email the little guys.
