My Political Stance (or lack thereof)

I’ve been asked over and over lately about where I stand on the issues of the presidential race. Usually I try to change the subject or avoid it all together. I’ve said before that I don’t like politics and don’t trust anyone running today. But if you have to know where I stand… I think that a bumper sticker I saw the other day sums it up. “Scared as Hell in ‘08″. Or apathetic as hell in 08.
I don’t consider myself Republican or Democrat. Both have points and both miss the mark greatly.
I’m pro environment and anti big business. I’m pro choice, but anti-abortion.
I support our troops, but I think war makes sense only in certain circumstances and we haven’t seen those circumstances in decades.
Christians who blindly vote Republican, are certainly not thinkers. They’re pro war and anti abortion. So the message is it’s okay to kill some, but not others.
I’m pretty anti-political. I don’t have much faith in the process, feeling that money and companies run most of it. So I choose to do the best with the time I have. I believe in helping the poor and those in need. I just do what I’m called to do and not worry about politics.
And who do I like for president? Hilary is scary. McCain is creepy. And Obama is good at sounding good.
So that’s where I stand. What about you?

I’m about the same as you. All politicians, by the time they get to the federal level, have to have been bought.
I’d reverse your descriptors of Hillary and McCain, and then I’d say that Obama is very good at sounding good…but that he’s also the only one that I see as a possibility for getting my vote. We’ll see how things shape up. But, he’s a senator…which means in my book he must be bought by someone. I’ve been told by some because he’s a new senator that’s less likely, which might be true, but I’m not entirely convinced.

I like how you think. I’m an Obama man myself.

Is that similar to being an obama girl?

Don’t drink the Kool-aid Obama scares me more than Hillary.
How can you be pro-choice and anti-abortion?
March 28th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Ha ha… good question. I’m totally against abortion, but I also don’t like the government regulating people like that.
I’m not drinking any koolaide… I said obama sounds good at sounding good. that wasn’t an endorsement. he’s a good speaker, but not much else.
My main point was that I don’t really like anyone.

Stuart,
I agree that politics and politicians are a sore lot. Many are bought and the mud-slinging and critical nature of the campaigns have been disgusting. To pick a lesser of the 3 evils is not much of a choice, but someone will get the job and whoever it is we will have to support and pray for regardless of how they stand on the issues. Change will not happen in our country and world because of politicians. Change will happen in our world when God unleashes His Spirit and power. Ultimately the Prince of Peace will rule in our world and it won’t be a democracy. It will be a theocracy and then there will be a peace in this world that we have never known. Until then let’s keep sharing Christ and see Him change the world one life at a time.

Bronco that’s the best answer. Jesus for president… Shane Claborne wrote the book and I heard it’s a good one.

I agree with Bronco about Jesus is the answer.
But in regards to the government getting involved in people’s lives don’t you think life is worth intervention? Would you want the government to stop people from murdering and stealing? Well unborn babies have no one to speak for them. Life to me is worth fighting for.

Life is always worth fighting for.
This an issue of morality and not an easy black and white argument. Does government involvement change peoples hearts? We have laws against murder, but it still happens daily. Same with stealing. We can’t change peoples hearts. Ultimately it’s between them and the Lord.
I think abortion is wrong. I just know that if you give the government the right to take away rights, there’s always more rights to be taken away. It’s not a matter of right and wrong. It’s totally wrong. But with government involvement, it’s a matter of control.

Greetings. Political wranglings are rampant and most christians place themselves in one particular camp. The truth, however, is that a nations spiritual condition has much more to do with whether it stands of falls than does political theatrics. For example, after 911, everyone was singing “God Bless America.” I wonder however, if in heaven, this chorus was drowned out by the blood of fifty million babies whose blood cries out from our soil. Not to memtion the loss of life in Iraq from every faction involved. While many see a war on terror (or whatever they choose to see) I see thousands of souls going into eternity. Souls for whom Jesus died on a cross to redeem. Priceless souls which shall never pass this way again.
This post touches on an area of my life where to Lord has wrought a mighty deliverance. Up until 4 years ago, I was very politically tilted, but this is no longer the case. I’m planning to write a post about it in the near future, but in short, departing the realm of political debatings continues to be very liberating. (WOO HOO!)
When one considers priorities, our pastor has brought up this question: “Will it be important a hundred years from now?” If the answer is no, than it’s probably not that important now.” In a hundred years, if time should go out that far, the debatings of today will be long forgotten. However, if we offer a glass of water or visit those in prison in the name of Jesus, this will have significance in eternity. Matthew 25:31-46 reveals to us the things which matter to the Creator of all that is.
Very thought provoking post and a refreshing look at the political circus that goes on 24/7. Sorry about the long comment. Have a blessed day in Jesus.
