My Chip

Needless to say that I’ve had a chip on my shoulder lately. I get frustrated with the way the church in America is going these days. It seems like it wounds more than it heals. And yes, I get frustrated, angry, fed up - from time to time (or daily).
But leave it to a dear, good friend to cut me to the core. I received an email that recentered me. He didn’t rebuke me, but simply shared from his life to give me perspective. I want to share some of the great truth he shared with me:
Over the last several months God has clearly given me an understanding of the critical spirit I had begun to harbor. It started off primarily defending the true principles of Jesus, loving and caring for each other, accepting all people, but then it became more of a battle of rightness, which is wrong. All of the things I was spouting against are indeed happening in reality in the organized church and in many believers lives, but I’m just not sure any of that contention brought me closer to Jesus, in fact it may have directed me away from Him.
Thank you my friend for sharing that with me.

Stuart,
I’ve had my issues with things that have happened in church. But we must remember that the church is the “Bride of Christ” I don’t let anyone mess with my bride and I’m sure you wouldn’t either.
that my friend is how a true man of God speaks edifyingly to a fellow Christ follower.
Kristina
Kevin - wouldn’t you say that the bride of Christ are God’s people, not the institutional church?
Kristina - you’re right, my friend is a true man of God
Stuart,
“The log in the eye” and the “chip on our shoulder” will in the end make us bitter and inhibit the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Your friend realized this which is the first step in keeping our eyes on Christ instead of everything that is wrong with the institutional church. Christ demonstrated his love for us when we were still sinners and so we must realize His love for us is greater that our sin and selfishness. There is no perfect “church” on this side of eternity, but in the end “the bride of Christ” will be without spot or blemish for eternity. Something to look forward to and focus on.
God’s people.

Stuart… You are singing my SONG brother… thanks for being so humble to share.. I harbor a lot of resentment about what I see as injustice in the “church”..expecially when it comes to my “kidz” biological and otherwise.. the part about “rightness” really hit with me.. I think a time of “refocus” is in the works..
