Labyrinth

While we were kayaking the Owyhee river and in the middle of nowhere, I grabbed a few leaders and we took an hour to construct this maze on the beach. I got the idea from a post over at Rethinking Youth Ministry.
Labyrinth is simply a tool to slow down and contemplate your journey with the Lord. As your walk in you think about the things within yourself that you want to give up or let go of. The path brings you toward the center where you spend time with the Lord. And as your journey back out, you think of the things you will take with you from your experience with God.
Our kids really grabbed on to the whole metaphor and had some pretty impactful experiences.
To build you own you can go here and here.

I use a finger labyrinth for my morning devotions… I’ve really enjoyed using it and am contemplating (ha) creating one for my spring junior high retreat. Thanks for sharing.
Stuart. That is too cool! What a great way to use the natural setting. So, did you leave the labyrinth behind for the next journeyers to stumble upon?
Yep, we kinda abused the “leave no trace” mentality of the backcountry and left it. It’s a pretty remote location and should be there next year (pending water levels possibly washing it away). Great idea man, thanks for doing what you guys do!
Alaina,
It’s a great tool to use. We actually used it as a part of 3 stations. They would first go to someone reading Lectio Divina style, then walk further to do the labrynth, and then go to a place to have someone pray over them. We ran them through one at a time and let them run these at their own pace. Thanks for commenting!
