This week, Ventus was labeled “emergent” by some local pastors like it was a dirty word. I was a bit offended to be so easily labeled. It was very judgmental and off base.

On a side note, I got the new Rob Bell and Brian McLaren books in the mail today. I’m way jazzed.

  1. you’re so emergent!

  2. I feel so cheap and labeled by your harsh worlds!

  3. Heretic! :)

    I’ve been called worse!

  4. I’m hoping that you all are feeling the sarcasm of me juxtaposing being upset at being labeled and reading books by people considered emergent. I feel like I’m in one of those moments when you have to explain a joke, but I want to make sure no one is confused.

And is it wrong to enjoy emergent writers and not be labeled emergent?

  5. Maybe you should just try saying, “I know you are, but what am I?” or “I’m rubber. You’re glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!” They just might connect with that level of reasoning.

  6. Good call. I’ll try that one.

  7. Better yet, just say:

You, sir, are a swine! May the Lord have mercy on you for speaking ill of such a great GATHERING. I tell each of my youth that if they truly love Jesus they will stand out there around the CANDLES in unity with Christ by their side. Have you not read your Bible about standing on the promises of God? I was always told, “that this book [the Bible] will either bring you from sin, or sin will bring you away from this book.” Your opinions are away from the BOOK!

It seems like you can use it for any argument you want.

If that doesn’t work, just moon ‘em!

  8. Wow, ha ha ha…
