A Word to Madonna: Don’t Mess with Missionaries

Now, I know usually when Madonna hears the word Missionary she thinks of her hourly night job… but in a recent article in Australia it seems Madge has gotten into a tangle with some real missionaries who were trying to adopt a baby. As it happens, Madonna now wants the baby.

So why the sudden interest in adopting babies? I don’t know where she finds the time with all of her daily crucifixions and gyrations on stage. She must be a multitasker. If we could only be more like Madonna… then we’d need to take Penicillin on a regular basis.

See the story here.

And if any of you are confused at this article, read it again with a thick voice of sarcasm.

An Australian family denies being involved in a tug of love with pop star Madonna over the adoption of a Malawian child.

British magazine Closer this week ran a cover story that the singer had chosen 18-month-old Jessica Kondanani as the latest addition to her family.

The magazine reported that at the same time an Australian couple had their hearts set on giving the little girl a new home and were in the process of adopting her.

The article has since been picked up by other media.

The family involved, Angela and John Wilmot have released a statement in Melbourne saying most of the article was untrue – except for the fact they were adopting Jessica.

“We are not involved in a ‘tug of war’ with Madonna,” the statement said.

“During Madonna’s time in Malawi she did visit the orphanage where this little girl is currently being care for.

“Jessica was one of many children that Madonna spent time with and she has no intention of adopting Jessica … that’s about where the story begins and ends.”

The Wilmot’s have praised Madonna for her “desire to respond to the world she lives in.”

Last month, Madonna brought 14-month-old David Banda home from Malawi to the UK.

“We wish her, her husband and her children all the best in their adoption,” the statement said.

“It is not an easy journey to decide to adopt or to travel the road to adoption and we are just thankful our lives are able to go on without the scrutiny of press she is subject to.”

The Wilmots have been living and working in Malawi for seven years helping to address issues of communicable disease, food security and community and spiritual development.

They said they were disappointed in the article, claiming they had been misquoted, and have wanted to keep the adoption confidential until things were official and their family had been informed.

“We did speak to a journalist, over the phone, but we are upset that this is the slant they put on the article,” they said.

The Kondanani Children’s Village, who is currently caring for baby Jessica, also confirmed it had not received any application from Madonna.

“Jessica is not available for adoption by any party other than the Wilmot family,” the Village’s executive assistant Cherie Martin said.

Well there you have it folks! Guess I was wrong. My apologies to Mrs. Ritchie… ButI still wouldn’t recommend messing with missionaries.

Thanks for the clarification!
