Johnny Mac’s Understanding

jmunderstanding Johnny Macs Understanding

Many of you know that I have a deep love of John MacArthur of “Grace to Who? Ministries” (note the thick sarcasm), so when I saw this on Joe Martino’s blog, I had to share it. I was given Johnny Mac’s new book “The Truth War” and I couldn’t make it past the introduction. I tried, I really did. But what a bitter, pompous old man. He was trying to deconstruct the post modern/emergent movement, but it was evident quickly on that he had no idea what he was talking about. You know the people that try to make arguments based on second hand information? They can be heard say things “I heard that them Mexicans are going to eat my social security check” or “proctor gamble is run by the anti-christ.” Johnny pretty much embodies that and does a good job here with missing the point. His main point always seems to be that he’s right and the rest of you can all go to hell, because he can back it with scripture. Needless to say that there’s not much love between Johnny and I.

But if you do enjoy, narrow-minded, dogmatic, misinformed, confused, creepy old men who lack humility… this book may be for you.

I’ve started a good book…

Posted by stuartdelony at 27th July, 2007

41E22W2QGWL. SS500 Ive started a good book...

I began reading Steven James’ book Story: Recapturing the Mystery.  I can usually tell if I like a book within the first chapter or so. This book has kept me reading it. So far so good.

The premise: it’s a narrative telling of stories from the Bible. We used some of it on our backpack trip to tell stories of Jesus that really breathed life into Him and His ministry. James has an amazing knack for personalizing Bible stories and making them seem much more human and real that before.

I’ll give you a review once I finished.

Steven James also has a great blog you can find here.

Posted by stuartdelony at 22nd November, 2006

mk01 09b Guess the BS [week 5]

This is a simple game. Each week I’ll display a scene from the Bible featuring Legos First to guess wins! I’ll keep a cumulative score going and the winner will receive a prize after a few months (it will be a REAL prize and I’ll ship it out to you wherever you are!) So post your answer in the comments box.

So guess! Win!

(And for bonus nerd points, put down the scripture reference)

For last weeks (and past winners go here)

Oh and if anyone is wondering [Ben Huge] the game will end at the end of the year. The person with the most wins… wins! The prize will be of actual value (gift cert. or something of the like). So play and win!

Please pass the Crowder.

Posted by stuartdelony at 1st September, 2006

entertainment 23876 3 Please pass the Crowder.

I’m excited, because I can never get too much Crowder. David Crowder is releasing his second book, Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, But Nobody Wants to Die: Or (The Eschatology of Bluegrasson Sept. 12, 2006! Along with being an amazing worship leader, he’s also a great author. Great food for thought, with an offbeat perspective.

If you’re interested pre-order it.

And this post is merely a segue to my next one…
