I went to the World Visions AIDS Experience back at the YS Conference. It was so well done and moving. Then I recently found out that World Vision is running this experience about an hour from our offices. So today, the youth are out of school and we’re talking a trip to go to this experience. It’s very, very powerful.

If you have a chance to go, you really should (and it’s free).

You can experience a mini version of it here online.

To see if it’s in a city near you, go here:

You can’t have youth ministry with out gross games. For some reason it’s so wrong, but it’s so right.

I love ‘em. I don’t know if it’s an American thing (see the Glutton Bowl) or just one that youth seem to enjoy. From fear factor nights (balut anyone? - yes it’s been done), to egg nog chugs…  (click at your own risk) there are many, so many amazing disgusting games.

Love them or hate them, they can be good tools to pull kids in.

So let me ask you this… do you have any favorite gross youth ministry games?

We’ve started a new Bible discussion on Thursday afternoons. We’re going through the book of Acts with a group of teens. Each week they read a new chapter and we discuss it. Last week we read chapter 3 that has the story of Peter and John healing a lame man.

We sat down and started to talk about it. This is a story I love so I was excited to see what they thought. The reaction? They thought it was stupid. We kept discussing it further and I couldn’t understand why. Then finally someone said, “what’s the big deal if the guy was lame or not! I know plenty of lame people.”

Ha ha. Something definitely got lost in the translation. They didn’t realize that the word “lame” meant crippled. They just thought he was loser and Peter and John helped his street cred. Now, keep in mind, these are not churched kids. I love their fresh perspective on things…

How often do we in Christianity let so much of our faith get lost in translation?

School was out yesterday for Veteran’s Day, so we decided to go and hang out in Seattle. It’s an easy way to just spend the day with youth. Fill the van, drive downtown, then bum around shops all after noon (thrift stores, etc.). It was a great day.

This is such a vital ministry. Pornography is one problem  one that the church, for the most part, ignores. These guys are doing a great job, ministering in places where no one else goes.

From being in men’s groups and down to youth. This is a serious issue that gets swept under the rug.
