Let it BurnPosted by: stuartdelony in 2008, Christianity, Church, Craig Gross, Jesus, Joel Osteen, quote, religion, resolution![]() “This whole religious rule book just needs to be burned,
and we need to reinvent the rules. Otherwise,
Christianity is going to fade away.”
-Craig Gross
I came across this recently and it’s really been making me think about lots of things. And the rule book he’s referring to here is not the Bible (so let’s clear that one up right away). I’m not sure if I completely agree with Mr. Gross, but I do believe that some things need to burn. I dont’ believe anything needs to be reinvented, but we do need to rediscover what it means to follow after Christ.
I’ve been thinking about the ways we, as a church, have created this false culture that nonbelievers don’t understand. Our lifestyle isn’t different because we’re holy, it’s because we’re faking it. Christian culture has become a game about seeming less sinful to those around us. We’re comfortable playing a part. We just go on Sundays, and try to stay awake. We are no longer a people seeking the Lord at all costs. There’s no openness or brokenness or community. It’s no longer about a journey.
Christianity in America is fading away. Churches may be growing and Joel Osteen is still selling books, but the church has forgotten it’s first love. It’s become a corporation afraid of risk and faith. It loves money, numbers and success. Somewhere along the line we missed the point, we lost the journey and forgot our calling.
My passion for 2008? Pursue vulnerability and community. Rediscover the journey. Seek the Lord at all costs.
What do you want to see happen or change in your life this year?

More thoughts from platform talkingPosted by: stuartdelony in Blogroll, Christianity, Church, Jesus, Ministry, Rant, Uncategorized, evangelism, people, religion, thoughts[This is a ramble continued from here...] Are we, as Christians, connecting people with Christ? Some of us can become worshipers of the Word (i.e. the Bible) and suck the life right out of it. I believe the Bible is the divine inspired word of God. But I also believe that without God the pursuit and reading of the Bible is boiled down to mere words on paper. Many may argue this, but it isn’t as if they words put in a correct order that make up the book create a mystical union of spirituality. God illuminates scripture, God breathes life into it. Think about the Trinity. Is the Bible part of the Trinity? It’s not the Father, Son and Holy Bible. There are those who are unwilling to leave the safety of the church and walk amongst the sinners. They would rather pour over the Bible, but never live it. What have you gained if you know the words, but are unwilling to walk it out? If your love of the Bible and fear of “sinners” keeps you hidden away from the world, you’ve missed the point of why Christ came in the first place. You’ve forgotten that he didn’t just die for you. Evangelism isn’t about being right when others are wrong. It’s not about proving a point. It’s about investment and a relationship. It’s about us showing the love of Christ to an unbelieving world. It isn’t easy, but it’s what we are called to do. If we don’t mirror Christ, nothing we preach will matter. Tags: Christianity, Church, evangelism, religion

Youth DynamicsPosted by: stuartdelony in Blogroll, Christianity, Church, Stuart Delony, Uncategorized, arlington, chruch, life, missionary, religion, wa, www.yd.org, yd, youth, youth dynamics, youth ministry[youtube= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWUioqbh1Eg] There’s many that read my blog, but don’t really know much about the ministry I work for (or what exactly I do). I work for a ministry based out of the Northwest called Youth Dynamics (or YD). I serve as director over the Arlington (Washington) community. It is our vision to see Northwest youth transformed by the power of Christ, integrated into the local church and impacting their world for Him. We are about reaching today’s youth through dynamic relationships and challenging experiences. Simply put: we journey with kids and to show them the love of Christ. For more about Youth Dynamics visit our website www.yd.org Any question? Feel free to email me : sdelony@yd.org Tags: religion, youth dynamics, youth ministry |
