Ah yes, the David Crowder band is back in the studio recording their next album. And in a move, either of genius or insanity, they’ve installed webcams around for us to observe the magic. See Crowder pick his guitar and his nose. See it all happen - LIVE!

Crowder Webcam (live pics -not streaming video- so refresh to update)

And no, this isn’t a dirty webcam link - unless you count watching DC teasing his hair as dirty.

[Compliments of Mr. Adam Pearson - a man I have spooned with and still respect in the morning]

Now, I’ve tried to stay away from all the Da Vinci code madness. It’s swirling around everywhere, especially in Christian circles. I’ve chosen to sit back and listen, content to politely make fun of Tom Hank’s Da Vinci mullet. Christians enjoy getting their ‘evil culture’ panties in a wad and that’s not the christianity I subscribe to.

But there is something swirling around here. I read an article by Josh McDowell on the impact that this book & movie will make upon youth culture. Da Vinci makes the point that there are secrets not told in the Bible there are vast conspiracies to cover up the real truth… etc. It’s the X-Files meets the Bible. The truth is out there and we’ve just been fed a lie. And I know some kids who have read the book and, even though it’s fiction, they’re beginning to question things.

At first I was surprised. I mean, this is a work of fiction, right!?! How is it shaking up people’s faith?

But take these stats about churched kids into consideration:

63% don’t’ belief that Jesus is the Son of the one true God

81% believe that all truth is relative to the individual and his/her circumstances

51% don’t believe Jesus rose from the dead

68% don’t believe the Holy Spirit is a real entity

65% don’t believe Satan is a real entity

(Barna research group, “Life Goals of America’s Teens”)

And remember these are CHURCHED kids! You know the ones that are supposed to know what they believe.

So I’m going to make a bold statement: I actually like the idea of what is going on. I’m actually getting excited to see what happens. This will be an interesting time to see faith challenged and how it all plays out.

Faith that is not tested isn’t really faith at all. If we’re going to call ourselves believers, then we better be able to back it up. So instead of us yelling out condemnation and boycotting this… we need to brush the dust off our Bibles and remember what we do believe. We need to be able to back it.

I see this as a defining moment in the lives of many teens I work with. Either their faith is worth something and is real to them or it will be as easily dismissed as Mr. Hanks’ mullet.
