Yes, it’s true. I’ve tangled with Doug Pagitt today. This was a heated, sordid affair. Let me explain.

On my facebook, Doug Paget (a founder/leader of the Emergent Church and pastor at Solomon’s Porch) sent me a picture of a fuzzy, cuddly puppy. You know the ones I’m talking about. You get them forwarded/spammed from person to person for no apparent good reason. He’s really got some nerve!

I usually just delete them, but this being a fuzzy, cuddly puppy spam from prominent Emergent leader, Doug Pagitt, I couldn’t let this go unanswered. I couldn’t take it. Truth may be relative, but my theology on on spam/forwarding comes strictly from Dr. John “I hate everyone” MacArthur’s book of backhanded pimp slapping. That’s right I sent Mr. Emergent an email referring to him as a dirty “manwhore” and re-forwarded him back with said fluffy, cuddly puppy in triplicate.

Then to make matters worse, Pagitt apologized graciously and went back to yoga and contemplative thinking.

In my anger, I cursed Rob Bell and Brian McLaren, then went down to a street corner to proselytize anyone who walked by. Then I felt justified.

[Note: this post is to be read with thick sarcasm and in jest. Most of the events are true (including fuzzy, cuddly puppy, the interchange, and the graciousness of Mr. Pagitt).]

There’s many that read my blog, but don’t really know much about the ministry I work for (or what exactly I do).

I work for a ministry based out of the Northwest called Youth Dynamics (or YD). I serve as director over the Arlington (Washington) community. It is our vision to see Northwest youth transformed by the power of Christ, integrated into the local church and impacting their world for Him. We are about reaching today’s youth through dynamic relationships and challenging experiences.

Simply put: we journey with kids and to show them the love of Christ.

I’m always wary of people who like to name drop Jesus when winning an award. When I heard Tim Tebow thanking the Lord twice in his Heisman acceptance speech, I decided to do some research into his background and from what I found, I was really impressed.  He seems to be the real deal.

Tebow grew up in a Christian family, led by missionary parents Bob and Pam Tebow. The Tebows are members of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He began his walk with Christ as a 6-year-old and has regularly traveled with his family during summers to the Philippines, where he was born, to lead evangelistic crusades and minister in orphanages.

Although his college commitments prevented him from going to the Philippines this summer, Tebow told the Witness the experiences of ministering there remain with him — and is something he will pursue in the future because “it is a valuable part of my life.”

Reflecting on the people he has ministered to, Tebow said, “Meeting all of those different people who have nothing and are poor gave me an appreciation for what me and my family have and provided me with the perspective of taking nothing for granted. It also allowed me to see the effect that I could have on those people. For some, the belief in Christ is all that they have and is much more important than money or material possessions.”

Wow and I thought that nothing good could come from the University of Florida (or South Carolina or Alabama or Tennessee).
