There’s been a bunch happening in the last 30 day of pop culture. Summer movies began. The TV season ended. Many were good, but only one stuck out in my mind.
Honorable Mentions for:
-Star Trek (5/5 – it was good without the geek) – It was the quintessential summer popcorn movie.
-Conan O’Brien begins his reign on the Tonight Show. It’s about time they gave Jay the boot. He was always too corny to be really funny. So long live Conan [and Andy]. Here’s a little bit o’ classic Conan.
- The season finale for Chuck. What a great show that no one’s watching. It narrowly escaped cancelation and it’s a travesty that NBC can’t make this show work. It’s funny, it’s clean, and there’s action…
And for the Best of the Last 30 days…
Let me preface this by saying that I typically hate musicals (besides Dr. Horrible). They make no sense to me, because people just randomly break out in song and I can’t get past the suspension of disbelief. Sorry you HSM fans. I can’t stomach them.
That being said. Miriam (who doesn’t abhor musicals, like I do) asked me to watch Glee a new show on Fox. Maybe it’s just because I’m a sucker for Journey, but I really liked it. Glee is a “one-hour musical comedy that follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to transform the Glee Club and inspire a group of ragtag performers to make it to the biggest competition of all: Nationals.”
Watch the pilot episode here…

Looking for cheese? Debbie Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas starring in a movie should be enough. But wait, it gets better. It’s called Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. I’m not sure what the movie could be about, the title is a little confusing. You can’t make this stuff up. Epic cheese.
Think it sounds bad? Watch the trailer.

Here’s a montage of 40 inspirational speeches mashed together. If this doesn’t get you going for the New Year, I don’t know what will… (besides metamucil).
[Also it's fun to see if you can name all of the movies]

Jones happens today and I’m excited. Any one else pumped?
For the Jones enthusiasts, you can buy the “Indiana Jones Handbook” filled with diagrams like this one (to the left) on how to properly crack a whip. You never know when an adventure might break out. This book could save your life.
We’re having an Jones-a-thon next weekend with many youth who haven’t experienced Dr. Jones. It should be fun, but it means I have to wait a week. Ain’t nostalgia great!

You all remember the children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are“? I’ve read it recently to my kids and then saw an article today about it being made into a movie. The book is a bit wacky, but nothing touches this clip from the upcoming film. It’s a movie by Spike Jonze. So it’s bizarre then? Check. And not for kids? Double check.
On and on a completely different note, here’s the new trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie.
