I’m so not ready for this! Yesterday, I was driving Aida home and she informed that a boy asked her to marry him. Now, Aida is only 3 years old, but still!

I knew it was trouble when last week in AWANA she lost at musical chairs and this little beau offered her his seat to stay in the game. Then comes this week…. (as she tells it) he walks over to her during juice and crackers and asks her, “are you married?” She replied “No”. Then he said, “we should be married.” Aida luckily didn’t respond.

Next week, I’ll make sure to ask him his intentions with my daughter while I clean my shotgun and sharpen my knife. She may only be three, but as a father… I’m not ready for this!

“Jesus’ Gospel reveals the primal, disruptive, inspiring, terrifying, shocking, hopeful worlds and ways of a revolutionary who seeks to overthrow the status quo in nearly every conceivable way.”

-Brian McLaren

So here’s the revolutionary [Jesus], but where’s the revolution gone? The one thing that is hardest to come to grips with is this: the gospel is here to mess up your life! Completely. Are we willing to do this? Some days I’ll say yes and step out. Other days, I bow down to the god of routine and enter his flow for my day. But if we really want revival [revolution] to happen, we must be willing to lay down all that we have to step forward into it. Whether or not Peter knew it, he left all he had behind as he joined Jesus on the open waters for a walk. He soon noticed that he didn’t have anything as he sunk. But we must come to that point of 1) seeing where we need to be {where is my Revolutionary at?} and 2) casting aside everything to join Him there {less of me and more of Him}.

These words:

primal, disruptive, inspiring,

terrifying, shocking, and hopeful…

Do they describe your life? Do they even describe your Savior? Do you want them to ?

I’m asking for some opinions and input. Doesn’t matter if you’re a parent or not, you’ve still got an opinion and I’d love to hear it.

I’m a father with 3 young kids and Halloween is today. As Christians, we’re overall led to believe that Halloween is an evil day that we shouldn’t participated in (unless we call it safe names like, Harvest Parties!). My kids are interested this year (though they’re only 4, 3 & 1 yrs.) and I know they only want candy and to dress up. We’ve told them no, not this year - but still don’t have a definitive answer for them.

I always remeber the weirdos in our neighborhood growing up that didn’t ’do Halloween’. But now that I have kids and are concerned with what we let them engage in, I’m left not knowing the right answer. So on Halloween, what is a Christian to do?

Any opinions on how to approach Halloween in the proper context?
