You ever been so busy and so tired that you don’t really know what to do with yourself? I’m approaching that point right now. I drink tons of coffee to wake me up and my body is there, but my mind is stuck somewhere in last week. So I’m feeling pretty wired, tired, and fried.

I’ve never been so tired in all my life, but through it all, I keep going. I don’t really know how. My plate remains full, but things keep getting done. Not small thing, big ones. The marathon continues and I can only attribute it to the Lord. I have no bragging rights here. Though, for being so worn out, I keep leaning in and finding this odd job amongst the whirlwind of business.

Now, I’m not saying that God blesses the busy. I’m just saying that I don’t know how I would have made it though the past few weeks (and few more to come) without Him. Less of me and more of Him seems to be working. I’m reminded of this scripture:

The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
(Isaiah 40:27-31, NIV)
So for those of you who are wired, tired and fried. For those who are weak, bleak and broken. And for any of you who are done before the day even started, just remember that you’re not alone. Remember that this life isn’t about you getting it right or perfect or having it all together. It isn’t about getting the check list done. It’s about stumbling and crawling broken towards the one who will always love you. Remember that God loves the weak and tired. He loves the coffee addicts and those who can only seem to cry. He loves the loser and the lonely. He loves the screw up and the fool. He even loves me and you.

Today I begin something new. I’ve been transitioning towards it for the past few months, but today is a new day. At work, I’ve got some new shoes to fill. I’m stepping into the role of director over Arlington Youth Dynamics. Today is the first day I can use the ‘d’ word when referring to my job title.

Yes, it’s more work. Yes, it’s more responsibility. But I’m excited to see what God is going to do in the lives of youth in this little town. As overwhelming as it may seem, I was comforted in my quiet time this morning. I read this passage and it seemed to fit exactly what I’m experiencing.  It’s the advice the Lord gave to Joshua as he took over for Moses.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

The Scriptures say, “If you want a happy life and good days, keep your tongue from speaking evil, and keep your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living in peace with others.” 1 Peter 3:10-11

When I read this it made me think of what the usual definition of a good life - plenty of  money and more.  And it’s a good reminder to remember how God tells us to find the good life. One is about ‘getting’ the other is about ‘doing’.  Both roads aren’t easy to follow, but only one leaves you with something in the end.
