I think that if we’re really followers of Christ, we should be a restless bunch. Searchers. Seekers. Explorers. We should always be striving to follow after the wildness of Christ. Are we meant to be stable or stagnant? Hardly. It’s a journey that we’ll never fully arrive on, but one in which we must keep moving. We have to keep moving. Our soul depends on it.

I was working today and listening to the radio (www.pandora.com) and heard an old song by U2 - I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. It really spoke to those restless places in my heart. So how many of you are searchers and seekers? How many are burdened by the feeling that ‘there’s more.’ I love the fact that the Gospel is too big to live in our hearts and constantly forcing us to search and seek and live bigger. Let us not settle. Let us keep exploring.

I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing fingertips
It burned like a fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the eternal angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
When all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well, yes I’m still running

You broke the bonds
And you loosened the chains
Carried the cross
Of all my shame
all my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

Another stand still in my life. God sure loves to do this to me. Stranded for the night in Dallas International Airport. It’s lonely and gaunt. The rhythms of the day have vanished into a whisper. Such a calm I imagine few ever see. The surface is still and no ripples. I find myself in the chapel on gate E2. I can’t sleep. Airport benches weren’t meant for the comfort of rest. So I walk down the terminal alone to pray.

Was my flight canceled all for this? I think so. You crave my attention lover of my soul. I only wish you didn’t have to pursue me this way. I should come freely. But I must thank you for showing me that. You and me alone. No distractions. No excuses. I am yours.

Somewhere over the Rockies we fly over this turquoise oblong lake that lies amongst the mountains. The surface is smooth, calm and I imagine there’s no one around for hundreds of miles.

I will find that lake someday. It’s somewhere north of Provo, where Utah meets Idaho. I will find it and swim out to the center and say that I am nothing. Just a tiny speck amongst giants. But the one that created all of this, the peaks and the valleys, He knows this nothing. He knows where I am. And that creator is big, bigger than anything these eyes can see from horizon to horizon. He is big and yet he knows nothing. He knows nothing by name. He is my Father.

And as I swim out in the turquoise deep, I know he can hear me, past the myriad of mountains, past the vastness of this earth. He says I am with you.

I’m like Zacchaeus in a tree going higher to see my Lord and king. Only it isn’t a sycamore, it’ more like some scraggly pine. Either way it holds my weight about 30 ft off the ground. I sit here in Colorado on a mountain top watching the sun rise. Slowly at first - but oh what a release of light. I am surrounded in the joy of the creator, the sound of creation beaming before me. Oh what a dreamer the God I serve is. A master painter. An artist in light. Oh praise him. He is holy, mighty, and has a beautiful imagination.
