My oh my! Um. Yeah. Uh….

There’s not much to say for this one. I know I’ve had my share of foot in the mouth situations, but this takes the cake.

But I’ll share a doozie of my own. I was preaching about the virtues of Mary, the mother of Jesus. I was going from the scripture when the angel appears to Mary and she was afraid. So I proceed to go off into a rant on angels. I was ripping our culture’s view of either fat little babies with wings or long haired women as angels. In the Bible, they are creatures to be feared. Men fall down shaking in their presence, etc.

So I’m ranting on angles and how ridiculously we like to portray them. Then, I began to rip on the tv show,Touched by an Angel. And I happened to say, “and why would God use a stupid woman.”

Now, I fully well meant that the view of a soft cushy feminine angel depicted in the show is so far from who angels are scripturally. And the “stupid woman” remark was aimed at Roma Downey and her awful, cheesy portrayal of an angel. That’s what I meant, but boy, it didn’t come out wrong.

Any great foot in the mouth stories from you?

What is wrong with us (U.S.) if the number one thing searched on the internet is B. Spears’ under carriage?!?

It’s a sad state of being.

Have we lost our way? I think that’s the wrong question. It’s more under the lines of :

“Who burned the map”!?!? and why!

Umm. I could comment, but the article speaks well for itself:

“It may be one problem airline security officials never envisioned — a passenger lighting matches in flight to mask odors from her flatulence. “

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

                                                                            Philippians 4:6

This is something I’ve been trying to wrap my head around for 29 years. It’s a passage of amazing comfort - but something I easily forget [and live likewise]. It simply reminds me that it’s not about me. Life isn’t in my hands [thank God!]. And when I realize that it’s not all on me… I’m am free to live in his abundance and grace.

Sounds great a churchy, doesn’t it. But for some reason I can’t seem to put it any other way. “Don’t worry stupid, it’s not about you” is my other alternative. I just doesn’t seem a warm and fuzzy.

Um… I don’t really know what to say about this picture (courtesy of my good friend Kevin Bussey). My whole stance on the whole Da Vinci Code mess is that more fault is on the christians than anyone (NOTE PICTURE!)

This is how the world sees us! Like a bunch of angry people in bad shirts (with nothing better to do with their time)! I’ve seen the movie and yes, it makes claims against much of the beliefs of Christianity. I’m not debating this. But the movie is also boring and mundane.

Let the book/movie speak for it self, because it’s not any airtight criticism of really anything. It’s bad Indiana Jones at best. Don’t worry about pulp literature. Let our lives speak for themselves. Let’s do something that matters (and I don’t mean protesting). Let us devote our lives to prayer and loving our neighbors. Everything else just seems like a waste of time.
