Tonight will be our last night on the river. It becomes our most emotional evening. The end of our trip is near. Pray that we all remain present for what the Lord may have for us. Pray that we may remain in the moment and not beyond. Pray that we remain one as a group. Pray against distraction. Pray that we may continue to seek, ask and to knock after the Lord.
I will buy one of you a free, round-trip ticket from your place of origin to Seattle and back.
The catch? You have to be willing raise money to play in a fundraising golf tournament where you play 100 holes of golf in day (6am -6pm)!
Here’s what you have to do. You go around getting people to pledge for you to golf per hole (at church, work, neighbors, etc.). You are not collecting money, just getting pledges (and addresses from pledges - our ministry will bill them once you complete the tourney). The minimum goal would be to get $25 per hold raised or $2500 total. That’s the minimum. If you raise more there are prizes - from a new set of clubs to a trip for two to Mexico.
The cause? You’re raising money to support the work of a missionary (me) who works with at-risk, rural, unchurched teens.
It’s a fun day of golfing. You get pampered plenty. Get a free trip to the Pacific Northwest. And it goes to a good cause. So, what more could you ask for?
Any one interested, email me and I can give you more info. The tournament is Monday August 25th. And like I said before, I’m willing to pay for your plane ticket…
Please pray for Mikey Lang. He and his wife Bonnie are amazing couple, friends, guides, missionaries, and fellow followers of Christ. This afternoon I found out that Mikey has a softball size tumor on his lung and will be going on May 25th for treatment in Canada. Lift Mikey and Bonnie in prayer during this time. Pray for healing, peace, and strength as they go through this time together.
Ministry is always a series of ups and downs while following after the Lord. Recently, I’ll have to tell you that I’ve been riding up and down, wave after wave. For those of you who do not know this; I am a support based missionary. This means that amazing people, financially support me and my ministry to teens on a monthly basis. Without regular support, I can’t be here, doing what I do. But with life and the economy always in flux, some people support you for long periods of time and others just for a season. It’s that ebb and flow of support based ministry.
So every once in a while I like to extend the offer to you, dear blog readers, the opportunity to join my support team.
So what exactly do I do? My job is to reach out to unchurched teens in Washington, journey with them, and offer them a hope and life in Christ. I am the director of Arlington Youth Dynamics a ministry located in Arlington, WA (www.yd.org). We deal with mainly broken, at-risk kids. I love being apart of what the Lord is doing in the lives of these amazing kids.
If you’re interested, go here to join and all gifts/support is tax deductible. If you have more questions shoot me an email (sdelony@yd.org) and we can chat.
Here’s a testimony of what God is doing in the lives of students.
Yesterday, I attended Youth Specialties’ the Core Conference. A bulk of the conference was about empowering your youth to be world changers. It was a great time (I’ll post a review this week) and what I took from it was that I can’t simply expect my youth to get involved in changing the world - my own children need to be involved as well. So when I got home, we had a family meeting and discussed several areas that they can participate. James and Aida voted on saving their allowance to buy mosquito nets for kids in Africa to prevent the spread of Malaria.
Sometimes as Christians, we begin to believe that we can change the world by inviting people to church. - but we’ve forgotten how Christ calls us to help the hurting, feed the poor, and care for those who can’t care for themselves. If we offer Christ, but don’t offer help, we’ve misrepresented the gospel.
