The other day, I posed on Facebook this question:

“I’m wondering, why we, as Christians, get riled up over the wrong things”

I won’t say what situation tipped me off, but I will include myself in this category of people getting riled up over the wrong things. I was more asking the question,  not really expecting an answer. But I got one.  A friend of mine quickly shot me this reply.

“Funny you should wonder why we get riled up over the wrong things, I almost responded to someone else’s wondering…and I was going to allow myself to be pulled into griping over something unworthy of my ire.

Even as I tried to form the response to your musing…I find myself being judgmental…so I guess for me the answer is pride. Least that is what I figure. We all want to right, demonstrate that we are wise or smart or more holy…and demand that others follow the same rules we live by, or that God has given to us.

Or maybe we are just trying to distract from our own failings.”

What a good response.

I love how, often times, the truth is simple, unexpected and humbling.

Here are four truths I leaned over Christmas from my kids:

1) Boots come in all sizes (even teeny tiny)

2) Samuel can do a mean impression of a gorilla (he received an animal book as a present).

3) Food eaten on a stick tastes better

4) You can spend all sorts of money on kids, but the best toys are free

So did you learn anything?
